Creando valor de los usos complementarios del bosque Gallego: caso de estudio de la Asociación de Resineros de Galicia

Abstract

The current study analyzes the sustainability and benefits associated with the development of forest complementary uses to timber harvesting. In a specific way, it is studied the resin production of the pines in the Autonomous Community of Galicia as an activity of possible implementation that can lead to a positive change of the forestry sector and of the rural area, in the economic as well as in the social and the environmental field. For that purpose, it is analyzed the case of the Galician Resin Collector Association which objective is the dissemination and promotion of the resin collection in the Galician community. Through a SWOT, the benefits and disadvantages of resin production as well as the activity of this Association are considered. Solutions are proposed to promote positive actions and mitigate adverse effects in order to make the resin collection of the resin pine forests of Galicia a transformative reality in the near future.
