Abstract

The project SPEAK started in 2014 and was founded by Hugo Menino Aguiar, leiriense that until then worked as a Software Engineer at OutSystems and as a Product Manager at Google. This project aims to fight against the barriers of social inclusion that newcomers feel when they arrive to a new city, these being the difficulty of creating a network of contacts with locals and the language. In 2017, the nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to the development of SPEAK was created, the SHARE YOUR WORLD organization. Due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, SPEAK was forced to adapt its work methodology, starting to function online. This way, SPEAK was able to continue to give support to the members of the community, not interrupting their process of integration, and it was still possible to fight the loneliness that many citizens experienced in the quarantine period, by being able to be present at events and language sessions on online platforms.
