The solution to the plastic straw problem: Edible sips and straws

Abstract

This case talks about the problem of pollution caused by plastic products. We will focus on straws, as they are one of the products that pollute the most, because they are not biodegradable and are part of a large percentage of plastics dumped into the sea; to what the Catalan company SORBOS has the solution. This company, located in Montornès del Vallès (Barcelona), has been committed since 2014 to innovate in the consumption of beverages in a sustainable way for the environment, since its straws replace those of conventional plastic, making them a biodegradable and edible product but with the same or even greater utility. SORBOS, under its slogan "We Are Eco", is autodefined as a conscious and involved company with sustainable development, since they do not even use it in their entire production process. These types of innovations, from an environmental and business point of view, can make our world a more sustainable place.
