Abstract

This case examines the controversy between Altri, a Portuguese company leading in eucalyptus pulp production and forest management, and Greenpeace, a renowned environmental NGO. Altri stands out for its business model based on sustainability and the international certification of its practices. However, Greenpeace criticizes the environmental impact of eucalyptus monocultures promoted by Altri, pointing out issues such as soil degradation, water depletion, and threats to local biodiversity. This conflict highlights the tension between the economic development pursued by forestry companies and the need to protect the environment, emphasizing the importance of sustainable strategies in the industry. It also underscores the role of NGOs as watchdogs for environmental compliance.
